How to Find Your Model Number

Start with the appliance’s model label, not the number on a similar-looking part.

The model label usually lists both a model number and a serial number. They are different: the model identifies the appliance design, while the serial identifies an individual unit. Copy the full model number, including letters, punctuation, and any revision or suffix. A clear photo can help you avoid confusing 0 with O or 1 with I.

Common places to look

Refrigerators and freezers

Check the interior side walls and door opening. Some models place the label near the lower front grille. Chest-freezer labels may be on an outside side panel or near the lower front.

Washing machines

For a front-loader, look around the door opening. For a top-loader, check under the lid and around the top opening. Other possible locations include the side or back of the cabinet or control console.

Dryers

Open the door and check the frame around the opening.

Ranges and wall ovens

Check the frame visible when the oven door is open. Some ranges have a label around the storage or warming-drawer opening.

Cooktops

The label may be on the underside or side of the cooktop housing. If it is not safely visible, consult the owner’s manual or ask a technician rather than lifting or removing the appliance.

Dishwashers

Look along the edges of the door and the frame visible when the door is open.

Microwaves

Check the door opening or interior wall first. A label may also be on the exterior or underside. Do not remove the outer casing to look for it.

If the label is hard to reach

Locations vary by manufacturer and model. Consult your owner’s manual, purchase records, or the manufacturer’s support site. Do not move a heavy appliance, disturb gas or water connections, or remove panels just to find a label. Let hot surfaces cool, and ask a qualified technician when access is unsafe.

Use the complete number
